What is the UKCC?
The UKCC is an endorsement of sport specific, quality coach education. If a sport is delivering UKCC endorsed coaching qualifications you can be sure that they are cutting edge.

What are the benefits?
The UKCC provides a recognised stamp of quality coaching across sport and across the UK. It makes it easier to identify the right coach for the right job and will help to professionalise coaching by establishing a recognised framework for coach education. The UKCC will ensure that sports are delivering the best available, athlete centred coaching and in due course reap the rewards of sporting success, both in performance and recreational enjoyment of sport.

I want to do a/the UKCC what do I do?
The UKCC is an endorsement of a sport’s coach education qualifications. This means that coaching qualifications are still delivered by the individual sports (FA for Football Coaching; PGA for Golf etc) A UKCC endorsed qualification has met standards ensuring that it is the best available coach education. Therefore if you want to do a UKCC qualification you still need to decide what sport you would like to coach and contact the relevant governing body to see whether they are delivering UKCC endorsed qualifications yet, and if not when they expect to be. You can find a list of sports national governing body contact here

How were the sports chosen and why? Why wasn’t my sport one of the 31?
31 sports were invited to be part of the UKCC developments. The selection and phasing of the 31 into 22 and 9 was completed by a sub group of the Coaching Project Board using the following criteria:

  • automatic inclusion of the focus sports of the Club Links workstrand of the PE, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL)

  • automatic inclusion of the sports agreed by the Sports Cabinet for UK Sport one-stop plans

  • automatic inclusion of individual priorities sports for all four home country sports councils

For the remaining places, the subgroup considered the remaining sports against the original criteria for selecting the shortlist of 31 sports, namely: commitment to, and evidence of, coach-education programmes; commitment to, and evidence of, partnership working with delivery agencies; fit with PESSCL; fit with the priorities of the sports councils; fitness for purpose of the governing body/bodies.

Ensuring a mix of: large sports and small sports; well resourced, high-profile sports and a less well resourced, low profile sports; sports administered at UK/GB level and at home-country level; a variety of types of sport (e.g. multidisciplinary, team, culture, season, safety, diversity of coaches/participants etc.)

What do I need to do to transfer my existing qualification to a UKCC one?
You need to speak to your governing body and find out what provision has been made by the sport for the transfer of  qualifications. In some instances this will be a bridging course or via a Continuous Professional Development opportunity.
