UKCC Phase 3 Forum: The Journey to Endorsement
Date: Thursday 15th September, 2005 Location: Novotel, Leeds
NGB support manager, Andy Gair presented a detailed UKCC endorsement timeline, demonstrating the steps required to reach endorsement and the impact on development of each process. The prioritizing of tasks to be completed along the journey to endorsement was focused upon, and sports were able to identify from the timeline whereabouts they currently sat and what actions were needed to proceed.
Following this, representatives split up and concentrated on learning, through a series of interactive sessions, about: Training Provision and the Awarding Function or Qualification Development and then Workforce and Resource Development. In the afternoon delegates chose components relevant to their sports needs and spent time with an expert in that field talking about how to move closer to endorsement.
The participation of staff from 1st4sport qualifications, the communications and marketing department, the NGB governing body team, Education and Training team as well as a Coach Development Officer meant that sports received technical support over a broad and wide-ranging number of issues and relationships were strengthened.
Orienteering’s Keith Marsden commented that to be able to ‘share experiences with other NGBs made it a very useful day’ and that he came away with ‘a clearer view of what was required’. While David Clarke from Archery mentioned that ‘for my sport, I was very pleased to have been given the opportunity to discuss some of our tutor/assessor training problems on a 1-to-1 basis with sports coach UK staff. This was very helpful as it gave me an opportunity to resolve some of our endorsement issues’.
